BFS Podcast Brand Design Case Study

To begin with, Yewande Odumosu, host and founder of the Building From Scratch podcast and Twitter Spaces live series, had all the right elements in place — a compelling name, insightful guests, and thought-provoking topics. But one crucial piece was missing: a clear and cohesive visual identity.

When I was recommended to join the project as a volunteer brand designer, I saw a unique opportunity to elevate the brand and create a visual presence that reflected its voice and mission.

I developed and delivered a complete visual identity system, including a modern logo, engaging guest announcement posters, dynamic audiograms, and a set of cohesive design assets. Each element was crafted with intention — ensuring consistency across social platforms, episode teasers, and live broadcasts.

The results from season one spoke for themselves;

Building on this success, I am currently collaborating closely with the team to refine and iterate on its visual assets in preparation for Season Two. I am focusing on deepening the brand’s visual impact across all channels.

To build anticipation ahead of the Season Two launch, I created a series of teaser graphics designed to re-engage the audience and hint at what’s coming. These visuals highlighted standout guests from Season One, introduced the new season’s identity, and invited listeners to share who they’d like to hear from next. Each design was crafted to feel dynamic and energetic, while maintaining consistency with the updated visual system for the BFS brand.

These assets served as a visual countdown — laying the groundwork for the first guest reveal and setting the tone for what’s ahead.

Episode Visuals

To support each episode release, I designed a unified series of guest spotlight graphics that guided the audience through every stage of the rollout — from early teaser posts to the live stream announcement and final episode launch.

Each set featured clean, structured layouts that framed the guest’s portrait, name, and key highlights with clarity and visual impact. This consistent visual system not only elevated the professionalism of the podcast’s brand but also made each episode instantly recognizable across platforms, reinforcing engagement and trust with our listeners.

Outcome

The designs were instantly approved along with Yewande filling my DM with showers of stickers showing her excitement.

The first episode for season two just went live featuring Habib Wasulu, Founder and CEO of Smileys Africa and BFS continues to establish itself as a leader in telling the stories of African founders.

"What stands out about Charles’s design is how it retains a high bar for quality even when it begins modestly, evolves with care, and achieves excellence through careful iteration. The design is able to communicate the values and focus of the team effectively and consistently."
